Join us for an all-in-one artists’ talk, tasting experience, and olfactory tour of the Cupped Hands Hold Water exhibit.
Artists Nimra Bandukwala and Hashveenah Manoharan guide participants through the Cupped Hands Hold Water exhibit through a multi-sensory storytelling experience. The artists will lead an exploration of their works through taste, smell, and touch.
Participants will enjoy a curated, tactile tablescape and the opportunity to engage with over 15 tastes and smells from the artists’ ecological memories of growing up by the seaside of Pakistan and the mountains of Sri Lanka.
The evening will unravel the stories of the Cupped Hands Hold Water exhibit, through pomegranate powder and pine resin, through tulsi and rosewater, showing how food and art can be used as powerful cultural storytelling tools.
This event is open to individuals that identify as Black, Indigenous and/or Racialized.
Participants can expect to:
-taste, smell, and touch more than 15 foods and plants
-enjoy a glass of wine courtesy of Holly’s Neighbourhood Cafe and Bar
-play with henna
-receive your choice of art print, signed by the artists
-engage in a conversation with the artists about migration, identity, nature, botany, and food through the lens of Cupped Hands Hold Water.
